A family from Israel in San Diego described surviving the attack.
On
October 7, 2023, an Israeli family of five from Nahal Oz, a kibbutz in southern
Israel, experienced a deadly Hamas attack. The family, with a small population,
was targeted and faced constant threats and kidnappings. The attack began with
missiles and sirens, and the family ran to hide their children in a safe room
made of concrete and window coverings. Cherry and her husband woke up to
artillery and hid in their oldest son's room for nearly 24 hours. They managed
to fight off intruders for long enough that no one made it inside the safe
room. They were taken to a nearby military base, but they soon realized that
Hamas kidnapped children's families and murdered whole families. Cherry expressed
her uncertainty about returning to their dream home, which had terrorists
inside.
